i wonder why its taken me so long to make curtains. probably the whole "temporary feel" to living in an apartment. why should i make this feel like home when its only going to be a short stop on my road in life? but whatever the reason, i finally decided i had enough.
i mean, look at this corner of my living room. pretty blah. i can't remember where i saw the inspiration (i read too many blogs), but i saw something somewhere and decided to make my own curtains.
ehhh....
much better. (i opened the shade behind the curtains). although its hard to convey the different in just pictures, there was a huge difference in shade open vs shade closed.
and just look out my window....foilage! (aka a little more privacy!)
nice and cozy.
can anyone tell what i made the curtains out of? (hard to see because the pictures are so far away). not the top tabs part (grosgrain ribbon), but the actual fabric curtain part. guesses?

Maybe we'll hire you to make curtains for our house...it's only been, what...5 years we've lived here with our drabby pull down shades! Looks cute! And no, sorry, no idea what fabric you used!
ReplyDeletehow much time do you have when you visit... i'm thinking you could get at least two jobs making curtains.... maybe i'll hold off buying some until i get your opinion. i actually have the curtain catalog open in front of me right now - i am that close to a purchase!

the curtains are actually a canvas dropcloth from lowes!! cool, huh? i like the off-white/wheat shade, and the material.
ReplyDeleteplus, all i had to do was...buy a $13 drop cloth, cut if in half, sewed a hem on 2 sides, sewed on the tabs (and some buttons - which probably took the longest), and tada...done! very simple and fairly quick. (except for the buttons and actually hanging the the curtain rod...which is a cheap $7 target one)
but i have to say these are BY FAR not professional (on the left curtain the side closest to the middle is kind of wavy? thats the original hem (i didn't do that)), but instead are a fairly cheap fix.
dont mind helping make curtains (i've seen tons of ideas and tutorials for many different kinds of curtains), but i'm not helping unless you have a sewing machine. i refuse to handsew anything longer than an inch. :)
what? you don't take your sewing machine on cross country trips?
